Michigan steps up

I'm proud to report that my hometown -- Grand Rapids, Michigan -- is stepping up to take in as many as 1000 refugees from Hurricane Katrina. The Grand Rapids Press has an article. In fact, according to the article, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm "has committed the state to receive up to 10,000" evacuees. It gets pretty cold up there in the winter, but it will surely be better than everything evacuees have been through in the last week. Hooray for Michigan and Gov. Granholm!
